Time to take a look at poker. Is it a game, sport, or gambling. Well lets take a look at the definitions of each.
Game - a competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance on the part of two or more persons who play according to a set of rules, usually for their own amusement or for that of spectators. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/game
Sport - an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/game
Gambling - to stake or risk money, or anything of value, on the outcome of something involving chance: to gamble on a toss of the dice. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/game
OK now poker can fall into anyone of these categories. It is a game, it requires skill to be good at it just like chest does. It has a set rules and also is played with two or more people.
To say poker is a sport by this definition is a little far fetched due to the level of chance involved.
Now to say poker is gambling is also a leap due to the fact that you control the outcome to a certain degree.
During the course of this blog I plan to show that poker is a game of skill. With a lot to learn.
